Boston School Committee adopts a new temporary exam school admissions policy.
October 22, 2020
By a 7-0 vote at a virtual meeting held on Zoom, the committee adopts a new policy in light of the coronavirus outbreak that temporarily replaces using test scores and grades to assign students in rank order with one one based on grades, MCAS scores, and Zip code via a lottery. A newly-formed group, the Boston Parent Coalition for Academic Excellence, sues to halt implementation of the new system, but a federal court upholds the change in 2021.*
